It governs how the displays are driven, whether a console can be worked on with an operator seated at the next position, and whether a failed component means a degraded room or an empty one.

Failure behaviour is stated. If the primary processing path faults, switchover holds the wall output automatically within a stated time. The manual fallback puts a single named source direct to a display without the processor in the path. Time to service is in the contract, and the room keeps running at a defined reduced capability until it is met.
