Professional Audio, Acoustics and Public Address

On most sites the public address system is tested for sound and never for sense.

An engineer walks the concourse, hears the chime, ticks the sheet. Nobody measures whether a passenger standing under a hard ceiling forty metres from the nearest loudspeaker can make out the words. On a platform, in a plant, or in a school corridor, that is the only thing the system is for.

Biamp, Bose Professional and Harman all build installed audio for spaces like this. SECCOM measures intelligibility in the finished room rather than trusting the coverage figure on the drawing.

Failure behaviour is stated explicitly. If an amplifier faults, a standby amplifier picks up the priority zones automatically, the fault raises an alarm at the panel, and the time to restore full coverage is written into the contract.

Where SECCOM stops. Fire detection and the evacuation strategy belong to the fire consultant and the approving authority. SECCOM's PA design follows their strategy and proves it can deliver it.
